Farm Tours & Farmers' Markets

The Best in Our Local Food Scene

Vermont leads the nation in direct-to-consumer farm sales, with more farmers markets, CSA’s, farm stands and cheese-makers per capita than any other state in the nation. Summer is a great time to get yourself out to a local market and bring home a bounty of farm fresh foods to enjoy with your friends and family. Many farms also offer tours so you can see the beautiful landscape where all those fresh veggies are grown, the cows grazing, delicious cheese being made, or fresh bread being baked.

From beekeepers to maple syrup producers and everything in between, Vermont is rich with local family farms and food artisans who value our long held traditions of sustainable living and producing delicious, healthy food. Here at the Inn we are committed to buying local and organic ingredients for our restaurant, and many of the farmers we work with are our treasured friends. Below you’ll find some of our favorites!

There are excellent farmer’s markets held every week in Manchester, Dorset and Bennington where you can meet the farmers, load up on your groceries, eat a great lunch, and buy other locally made items like pottery, jewelry, soaps and crafts.

Cheesemakers like Consider Bardwell Farm or Taylor Farm will often open their doors to guests or tours, especially if you call ahead. Clear Brook Farm has a plentiful fruit, vegetable and local food stand along with a beautiful nursery where you can buy veggies plants, seeds, flowers, shrubs and trees for the garden. Dutton Farm Stand  is a great place for fresh berries and other goods from local farms. Anjali Farm produces (and supplies the Inn) with wonderful organic veggies and even sells organic hops for home craft beer production.  Earth, Sky Time Farm grows organic veggies, bakes an amazing variety of breads in their wood-fired oven, and sells other handmade foods like pesto, hummus and veggie burgers.

A visit to Vermont, especially in summer, just would’t be complete without giving yourself a local farm or farmer’s market experience. Treat yourself to shopping and eating like a real Vermonter – you’ll be supporting our local family farms and enjoying a delicious bounty of fresh, healthy foods grown with love and care!
