Fun on the Battenkill
Tubing, Canoeing & Kayaking
Having the famous Battenkill River just steps from the Inn’s driveway, makes it pretty darn easy to make a beautiful day of tubing, canoeing or kayaking along these glorious waters. Known for it’s incredible trout fishing and abundance of wildlife, the Battenkill River is truly one of Southern Vermont’s most treasured natural assets. We often set up gear rentals for our guests to enjoy an afternoon on Battenkill and it’s always one of the most pleasurable and memorable experiences they talk about year after year. If you’re planning a family gathering or a great wedding weekend activity with friends, taking a trip down the Battenkill together will be a memory you won’t forget. You can enjoy the river from April to the end of October…a slow float in the fall will give you a perfect view of all the autumn leaves and their bright colors reflecting on the water. On a hot summer days like we’re having now, you can’t beat a day on the water to kick back and cool you off. As you relax and float past wildlife, under covered bridges and along gorgeous mountain views, there are lots of great places to stop and eat your lunch or dip in a swimming hole along the way. The Battenkill is a Class 1 river (fast moving water with riffles and small waves, few obstructions, all obvious and easily missed with little training) so you don’t have to be an expert and even younger kids will love a day on the water in a canoe, kayak or tube. Next time you come for a visit, just ask and we’d love to help you plan a day on our beautiful Battenkill River. You won’t regret it – we promise!
